The Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours) program is a four-year course with three co-op work terms, focusing on producing skilled software developers. It covers software quality, reliability, and security, emphasizing testing methodologies, project management, and security awareness. Through experiential learning, students gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for professional practice. The curriculum integrates technology for effective learning and explores emerging fields like Big Data Analysis, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, and the Internet of Things.
All students entering this program must: have a laptop computer that meets minimum specified requirements own and maintain their laptop bring their laptop on the first day of classes.
Candidates must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or be 19 years of age or older. A minimum cumulative average of 65% in six 4U/M courses is required, including the following mandatory courses: ENG4U, any 4U math, and any four additional 4U/M courses. Higher averages may be necessary for admission due to program competitiveness, even though the minimum cumulative average for consideration is 65%.
Applicants with non-English instructional backgrounds must submit English proficiency test scores, including TOEFL iBT 88, IELTS 6.5, CAEL 70, PTE Academic 58, CELT Band 6, Cambridge Exams 180, or equivalent. A language program is available for those below the admission standard. Completion of ELS level 4 with an 80% average and no grade below 75% qualifies for admission to the degree program. Placement in the ELS program is based on in-house test scores or TOEFL/IELTS results.
