In a one-year Data Science Graduate Certificate program (15-21 credits), students learn essential skills to meet the rising demand for data scientists. The program focuses on applying analytics and algorithms to large datasets, emphasizing hands-on experience with relevant tools. Graduates can apply earned credits to advanced degree programs (MS, MEng, MBA).
Applicants seeking admission to the Data Science Graduate Certificate program must hold a bachelor's degree (BS or BA) and meet specific criteria. A minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 (B or better) is required for relevant undergraduate courses in the following areas: database design and management (including SQL queries and relational database development), statistics (covering probability distributions, hypothesis testing, and linear regression), and programming (with proficiency in data structures and experience in developing medium-large software in C++ and/or Java).
Applicants are required to complete secondary school, equivalent to senior high school in the U.S., and obtain a graduation certificate or diploma eligible for university application in their home country.
All first-year applicants should have a college preparatory education curriculum, ensuring eligibility for university application in their home country. Typical subjects include Mathematics (4 years), Science (3-4 years, including Chemistry and/or Physics), and Language/History/Social sciences and other electives (3-4 years). UC acknowledges curriculum variations by country and encourages students to undertake challenging courses available in their schools.
Transcripts must cover the most recent 3-4 years of completed coursework at the secondary/high school level, including grades. Include currently enrolled classes and grades, as well as the previous 2-3 years of classes and grades (duration depends on the country). Include A-Level or IB advanced credit details if enrolled or completed. All transcripts must be in English; if not, provide certified English translations for each document.
International students must demonstrate English proficiency either through test scores or by meeting one of four exemptions. Acceptable tests include SAT or ACT, and there are specified minimum scores for alternative exams such as IELTS, TOEFL iBT, and Duolingo. Exemptions are granted based on specific conditions.
