The Computer Science program, with a focus on Data Science, prepares students for dynamic careers in software development. Specializations include Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and more. The Data Science major emphasizes statistical methods, tools for handling large datasets, and advanced visualization techniques. Real-world experience is integrated through industry projects in the Work Integrated Learning program.
Prospective students qualify for admission by completing the VCE or an equivalent, including interstate or international Year 12 qualifications. Alternatively, having an approved tertiary qualification secures a spot if the ATAR meets the Guaranteed Entry Score. Even with a lower ATAR, consideration is possible with adjustments based on factors like subject bonuses or equity schemes. The ATAR acts as a guide, and further details can be found on the course handbook page.
Prerequisites for the course involve a minimum study score of 25 in non-EAL English (or 30 in English as Alternate Language) for VCE Units 3 and 4. Additionally, successful completion of two units in any mathematics or equivalent is required for VCE Units 1 and 2. Applicants lacking the math prerequisites must complete Swinburne's MathsLink Further Mathematics bridging program.
